Film Noir

I have decided to take elements from Film Noir and incorporate them within my music video. Film Noir was created by French film critics (first by Nino Frank in 1946) who noticed the fact of how 'dark', downbeat and black the looks and themes were of many American crime and detective films released in France to theatres following the war. The conventions of classic film noir were melancholy, alienation, bleakness, disillusionment, disenchantment, pessimism, ambiguity, moral corruption, evil, guilt, desperation and paranoia. Also the costumes usually were made up of trilbies, sun glasses and dark clothing.I have decided i would like to use all of these elements within my music video to create something which is contemporary yet historic. Also i feel it would give the film a touch of class and would be a great contrast to the rocky song. The theme of black and white would give the narrative a powerful effect and help add to the authenticity of the mise en scene. The characters which featured with Film Noir were corrupt characters and villains which included down-and-out, conflicted hard-boiled detectives or private eyes, cops, gangsters, government agents, a lone wolf, socio-paths or killers, crooks, war veterans, politicians, petty criminals, murderers. I would definitely like to use a detective character within my narrative to portray the antagonist as this would be very helpful in creating a authentic film noir theme.
